Closing: marked-katex-extension (which renders $…$ math) supports only katex >=0.16 <0.17 in the version we use, and <0.19 even in its latest release (5.1.13). This bump leaves a nested KaTeX 0.16 for that extension while the app loads 0.19's stylesheet, and KaTeX 0.18 renamed the internal classes that stylesheet targets, so most rendered math would lose its styling. CI passes because the tests check that math elements exist, not how they are styled. KaTeX and the extension need to move together in a dedicated PR.
